Gender Reveal Party!

Around 15 weeks, I started getting really anxious about finding out the gender of our baby.  Our appointment with our doctor for our gender ultrasound wasn't until 21 weeks though.  I really wanted to go to one of those other ultrasound places because they tell you you can come in as early as 14 weeks, but Brian said he just wanted to wait for the doctor because those places are expensive and he wouldn't trust their results that early anyway.  I found a sweet deal at one of those places though so I took Maddie one day and we went to find out whether this baby was a boy or a girl.

I had to keep my eyes closed for most of the ultrasound so I didn't accidentally see something (or lack of something).  I can't tell what I'm looking at most of the time during ultrasounds anyway though so I'm not sure why I was so worried about it.  The baby was dancing and jumping around like crazy so it took a little while to get a good look because he was crossing his legs most of the time and wouldn't hold still.  But the tech finally got a good look, took a pic, and wrote down the gender in an envelope for me and Brian to open later.

I told Brian we were having a party with some friends to carve pumpkins, but Maddie and I had actually planned a surprise gender reveal party.  Maddie made an awesome cake for us to cut into filled with blue candies to say it was a boy!  Brian had pretty much figured it out a few hours before the party and so he wasn't really surprised by the party, but I think he was pretty excited about finding out the gender.  He did think I already knew what the gender was before we cut the cake together though.  I had to tell him after that the gender was a surprise for me too.
